I’m often asked what skin products we use on Finn and Evie. What I used on Finn when he was a baby is night and day from what we use today. I was a clueless new mom who just wanted her baby to smell yummy. We had a lot of trouble with Finn’s skin. He had terrible cradle cap and was very sensitive to lotions and washes. Hindsight is 20/20, right?
I’ve heard of pediatricians and dermatologists telling friends not to use the popular brands you instantly think of in terms of baby products (many I used on Finn) as they admit are too harsh for such delicate skin, especially if there are skin sensitivities. Again, 20/20!
In addition to updating the products we use (found in the Health and Beauty Buys post), we’ve also tried to find products for Finn and Evie that don’t contain such harsh chemicals. While my goal down the road is to make many of the products we use on a regular basis, I just don’t have time right now. I’m still in “baby step” mode when it comes to our skin/beauty products! These certainly aren’t perfect, but we’ve come a long way, baby!

So, without further ado, here are our skincare (+ a few other) kiddo staples:
We go between 2 products right now and really like both. Both, I think, smell far more yummy than those *other* brands we’ve been convinced are best.
Coconut oil is incredible. In addition to having a variety of health benefits when taken internally, it’s off-the-charts amazing for your skin. When we use moisturizer on the kids, it’s coconut oil. After their baths, I love putting it all over their sweet skin. Nothing is more raw and moisturizing and nothing smells more amazing! I know some people are pretty particular with the brand coconut oil they use. Here is a great resource in how to choose your coconut oil.
There are times when the kids have some extra dry skin patches for one reason or another. Depending on the type of patch, we use Calendula Cream or the Tea Tree Cream (below).
If there is an extra sensitive spot on the kids (especially Finn), this cream usually does the trick. I’ve been known to use it a time or two, as well!
In addition to using essential oils (sick or not sick), this chest rub is without a doubt our go-to for congestion. If your child fights putting it on their chest, go ahead and use it on the bottom of their feet.
Some people scoff when I tell them we are still using flouride-free toothpaste for Finn and most likely won’t change. I would like to find a bit cleaner toothpaste, but I’ve yet to try one that Finn will use. So, for now, this is our go-to for the kids.
Finn currently takes 3 (of the recommended 4) Ocean Kids vitamins with breakfast. Evie will hop on the train down the road.
I hope this was helpful for you. I’m happy to answer questions and would love to hear about the natural products you’ve tried on your kids… the good, the bad and the ugly!
