Week 1 of Whole Foods shopping and there goes my less-than-hundy grocery bill! Everyone said it would happen and sure enough, it happened.
What’s on the menu for the week?
Please note there are usually slight modifications I make to all recipes to either make them work for our family or to make them healthier. For instance, I always use local honey, 100% pure maple syrup or organic sugar in place of agave nectar and I always use white whole wheat flour in place of all-purpose flour or bleached white flour. We also use almond milk for any call for “milk.” As with anything, modify to fit your needs!
These are the only taco shells that didn’t have GMOs or weird ingredients. I am actually going to try and make my own tortillas this week, but these are on hand for back-up!
After gasping at nearly every coffee creamer in the stores for the last few weeks due to soy, carrageenan, or GMOs, Justin finally decided to take a stab at homemade coffee creamer. Even the natural CoffeeMate, we learned, is crap. Ugh – so frustrating, isn’t it? I’m not a coffee drinker, but I’ll let you know what he says about the homemade variety if you’re interested!
I do feel insanely happy when I’m in the produce aisles at Whole Foods. I don’t know what it is, but I think I linger too long and the staff start questioning my motives. “Is she someone’s stalker…. pssst…. she’s just starring…. pssst….”
My neighbors mom has a garden the size of our house. She grows a variety of different lettuce and when I saw this green lettuce, it took me back to this summer when my neighbor brought over a few bags of the most delicious, fresh-tasting lettuce I’d ever had. I’m trying to get back that loving feeling…
So…. this was SUPPOSE to be a surprise treat for Justin this weekend, but dude-o found the stash and dove right in to his PB cups. For the record, husband, I did try!
The bills are a little wonky this week. I forgot the coffee creamer items and had to head back in, so here are 3 shots of the bill in case you are curious the cost of a certain item.
On a completely unrelated note, yesterday afternoon was the third time in one week that the microphone went out on the person instructing a class at the gym and the third time in a week there were no replacement batteries. How annoying is this? I kept thinking, “we are all paying you enough, right? BUY SOME BATTERIESSSSSSS!!!!!!!” <END RANT.>
Hope your Halloween went swimmingly and your November is off to an amazing and healthy start!
Any favorites at Whole Foods for which I should stay on high alert?
