I met my best friend in 1992. We were in 7th grade. Era of big glasses, one-strap overalls, Keds, and flannel shirts. I don’t think we officially became “best friends” until 1993. You see, we had to kick another girl out of the 3-way best friendship to be exclusive. Yes, middle school drama, but it was well worth it. She remains my best friend today.
Through teenage craziness, college idiocracy, too many boyfriends to count, weddings, babies, and overseas moves, she remains the friend that fills the area in my heart reserved for sisters.
About a month ago I found the gift she gave me the morning I left for college… taped, glued and laminated with love. Our friends – guys and girls – gathered at each other’s houses the morning we all left for school. Hugs and tears were many as an era of incredible times and amazing bonds was ending. It’s been 13 years since I left home. I don’t have many things from that time, but I still have this, and I’ll cherish it always. And, if it was cool to frame and hang in my house, I’d totally do that!
Erin has the best laugh, the funniest sense of humor and the biggest heart. She’s my girl soulmate!
Tell me about your best friend. Why do you love her? What’s your favorite memory?

I came across your blog via your sister-in-law, and am hooked!! This post had my eyes welling up with tears. My BFF of 32 years and I use to do this all the time. I have them all tucked away in my old bedroom. I think it would be a fun piece of “artwork” in an office, matted and framed. Give it a whirl you never know how it may turn out!
I love it! Just said “good-bye” to yesterday for another chunk of time as she is off to saving the world again. Her and her family now live in Asia so we do not see one another often. Some people just SHOULD have been born family
