When I went through month-long shopping experiences at Hy-Vee, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods, I didn’t know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised with some experiences and disappointed in others. I learned more about these different stores and the products avaiable than if I’d simply gone through the motions. All in all, I’m glad I did it.
Since my test, I’ve mainly shopped at Trader Joe’s, but I’ve also made regular trips to Hy-Vee and Whole Foods, mainly for juicing goods!
Over the next few weeks I will be sharing product category reviews with you, focusing on price comparisons in the following categories:
- “Milk,” Eggs and other “Dairy” options
- Fresh Fruit
- Fresh Vegetables
- Breads/Grains/Pasta
- Crackers/Snacks
- Misc. Items
I’m looking forward to these posts, Kerry!!
I don’t know if you do much shopping for fish, but if so, I would love to see price comparisons on those items as well!
Thanks!!
I’m curious which brands you buy for the kiddos? Being that you deal with food allergies! I’d love to shop those stores, but I don’t know what’s safe for my nut/egg/peanut allergic kiddos.
Excellent… I’ll include that!
My fav is the leafy stuff too!
I love Whole Foods’ kale. Esp the red!
I’ve never tried the red or blue. I MUST!!
I like to get some of my juicing stuff from Costco- 10 lb bag organic carrots only $7 and big bag of the organic baby Kale. I think that’s $4 something.
For sure! That’s where we get our spinach, some juicing kale (I LOVE the leafy stuff… I know, so snobby!), and the carrots. Those are a STEAL! I do sometimes get their bananas and oranges, too. They aren’t organic, but they aren’t some of the dirtiest, so to save money, I often go conventional on those items. I’ll be sure to include that in price comparisons when I do those. Thanks for reminding me of that!!
