My Mommy Mind

  • Baltimore is doing some amazing things to create local, sustainable food for the community through Big City Farms. Farm to table in less than 10 miles. How I wish this practice would come to Des Moines!
  • For this Irish girl who loves to decorate for Easter, I find it quite cruel that St. Patrick’s Day and Easter are so close together this year. I love bunnies and Jesus and leprechauns. I blame the Myans.
  • Evie is no longer a hillbilly… she is a little girl with FIVE teeth!
  • I’m contracting to do some grant writing with my former company. Last week the staff I was set to meet with showed up at my house. I showed up at the office. Doesn’t that only happen in movies? (Dumb movies, sure, but movies nonetheless!)
  • Do you ever make a batch of cookies that seem to go horribly wrong? Scroll to the bottom of this Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookie post to give you insight on what went wrong. Fascinating!
  • Justin and Finn made an incredible fort and snowman yesterday. Quality father-son time. Finn was in HEAVEN!
Are you a parent? How did you determine how many children was IT. We are I am so conflicted. Two? Three? Four? I can’t count any further.

I only have one little one but I think it’s kind of like knowing when your spouse is ‘the one’ and you just know when your family is complete. So maybe your family isn’t quite complete? :)

I can’t wait to hear what you decide about the best # of kids for your family :) We are conflicted, too!

I think if you are pondering the idea go for it! You will never regret having another child, but you might regret not having one.

I’m just starting to write grants for our local food pantry. If you can give me any information, I would sure appreciate it.

My best advice: check, recheck and check again! There’s alot in RFP’s and you don’t want to miss a little detail.

Thanks Kerry. I will definitely do that!

Interesting question! Right now we have one and our current thinking is that might be it for us. We’re not 100% decided, but that seems like the likely option. It’s funny too because as an only child, I swore I wanted to give my child a sibling, but at this point I’m not sure.

We are conflicted on the issue as well. We tend to have discussions about what we feel our limit would be. Overall, the only thing we can agree on is that the Lord will help us know when to add more or when to focus on raising and developing the little ones he has already given us. It’s hard to know.

On another totally random note….are you planning a garden or any posts about preparing and planting a garden? Have you ever grown kale?

    • Kerry February 25, 2013 at 2:05 pm #

I am so excited for my garden this summer actually! We’ve been composting so I am interested to see how that helps. I have a “grid” on a sheet of paper already outlining what I will plant and where as we have a tendency to put WAY TOO MUCH in the little plot that we already have.

Once I buy the seeds I will have to put a post together – hadn’t thought of that!

I haven’t grown kale before but I plan on 3 or 4 plants of it this year. My sister-in-law grew it last summer and had TONS each week to harvest.

Personally, I’ve just always found families with two kids or less soooooooooo boring. I know it’s busy, and can be nuts, and finances will get stretched but you’ll never regret that extra face coming home for the holidays when they’re older, and your kids will learn to be more well rounded individuals who work better with others because of growing up in a house where it wasn’t all about them. I’ve found that most people I get along with best come from bigger families. (This is all my opinion, but I hate, when people have two kids, especially when it’s a boy and a girl, and others assume they are done then, “oh, now you have both and you can be done, isn’t that nice?” Since when was this YOUR business?!)
