My Mommy Mind

  • Last week was tough around this house and I’m just plain disgusted I still don’t have birthing news on the latest tooth. This particular stubborn tooth broke through a few MONTHS ago and then retreated. I feel like we’ve been slinging mud at each other ever since. Evie, with her snotty nose, chapped cheeks and red bum, is the most ready for this charade to end.
  • The “Good Girl Curse.” Very interesting read and a perspective I hadn’t thought about prior. Curious your thoughts on raising girls.
  • Finn is officially registered for pre-school next year. I’m in complete denial this is happening.
  • In case you missed it last week on facebook, I posted a great blogpost on infant formula. If you aren’t able to nurse, I encourage you to read through and consider the best option for your child.
  • It’s Valentine’s Week! What did you buy for your sweetie?
  • The Snotsucker. Heard of it? Although it did take me 20 minutes to find the courage to use this the first time, I’ll never go back to a regular aspirator. Worth every cent. If I had a million dollars, I’d buy one for all of you! (And no, I promise, nothing goes from their nose to your mouth. Pinky swear.)
Have you tried the Snotscuker or any other ridicioulous gadget for your child that you now recommend to every one? Please share!

Thanks for sharing the infant formula article. Eric wrote a similar post on our blog: http://wordsofwilliams.com/what-ingredients-are-in-infant-formula/

We use Earth’s Best Organic based on Dr. Tyler’s recommendation. I’ve always wondered about Baby’s Only. Seems like a great option for sure!

My parents waited to start me because I’m a June birthday and it was the best decision. I loved being the first to get my license, turn 21 in college, etc. I’ll be doing the same for my kids if we have one with a summer birthday.

OK, there are so many jokes you could make with what I’m about to say, but I can’t suck hard enough to get the nose freida to work well! Maybe it’s my asthma that’s causing my sucking issue, but I end up using our hospital aspirator instead always. And I agree, the aspirators from a store, not the hospital, are junk.

Bahahahahaha!!! I’m hearing a “that’s what she said” joke :)

My lil guy starts preschool in the fall too. I had a hard time figuring out where to register!

It’s so hard, but I came the conclusion there’s no “bad” choice, just “different” options!

I’m curious what the preschool program is. He will be 4 right? Is he doing half days? How many days per week? Our little one will be 3 this summer and everybody seems to think she should start preschool in September and I’m not 100% convinced that we should. We are considering waiting until she is 3 1/2. I would love to get your thoughts.

Ah, I have so many thoughts on raising girls. Interesting article you posted. I really don’t know how to prevent all of the “girl” issues that could come along. I know that I read
Cinderella Ate My Daughter by Peggy Orenstein and it was fascinating. Definitely something worth checking out as a mom to a girl.

Hope that tooth gets better ASAP!

No Valentine’s Day plans, just possibly some yummy cupcakes from a new “sweets” place nearby. How about you?

Finn could have started preschool this year, but he would have been the absolute baby. (His birthday is winin days of the cut off.) We waited and I’m so glad we did. He’s enrolled at a local program. It’s 2 mornings a week, 9a-1130a. It’s the 3 year old class, but he will be the oldest now. He needed that year. It’s amazing what even 6 months does at that age. I have no regrets on waiting for him. Hard choice either way!

Thanks for the Peggy book recommendation! I’ll have to check it out!

So glad you mentioned the snotsucker! I have been reading a lot of different things on it and they all sound promising, I think I’ll go buy one this weekend to have on hand! Do you need anything with it? I heard the ones they give you at the hospital aren’t bad either….we shall see in a few weeks!! :)

The hospital one is the best. Don’t buy a regular aspirator. They are all garbage. (Seriously, I have 3 that all stink!) You don’t need anything else with the Snotsucker right away. You can buy extra sponges if you use it a lot… that’s the piece that keeps the snot from your mouth … but we thankfully don’t use it that often!
